We are an invitation-only jiu-jitsu club that exclusively serves law enforcement personnel. While all of our coaches teach classes in public gyms around the area, and many of our students attend classes in other gyms, The Hangout Jiu-Jitsu Club is still home.
Our Values
We prioritize the safety of our teammates. We take care of each other and actively strive to avoid injuring ourselves or other students. If you’re injured, you can’t train. If you can’t train, you can’t enjoy the many benefits of jiu-jitsu and you can’t serve your fellow students. We train hard but maintain control and composure at all times.
We are humble. We cherish all lessons, classes, drills, and sparring sessions as opportunities to learn. We appreciate our minimal role in the greater jiu-jitsu world while striving to be the best representation of the martial art. We accept constructive criticism with an open mind and we understand that there is no one way to learn jiu-jitsu and there is no one perfect technique. Instead, there are many ways to learn jiu-jitsu and many techniques. Our goal is to experience them all and be grateful for the opportunity to expand our knowledge.
We are respectful. Our shared interest in this sport unavoidably bonds us all on a personal level, which demands we respect and protect each other’s privacy, boundaries, and lifestyles. Prejudicial speech will not be tolerated.
We are ambassadors of etiquette. The standards of etiquette are always observed in our club and while training at other academies.
We communicate. Our collective goal is to promote a safe, team-oriented environment while also providing each student with opportunities to grow; however, obstacles may arise that need to be addressed. The first step in addressing club-related obstacles is timely and honest communication with the professor.
